New England drystone fences are free. The stones are picked from the fields 
as they are plowed...there's where having lots of kids comes in handy. In 
some places, stone is a better crop than anything the farmer plants. The 
wall can take years to build. I'd love to have one, but I don't plow up 
large areas, so I only have the stones from my garden area (I could still 
build a nice little wall, though, just from them).
