I know. I suppose at our age the way we interpret the universe is
fairly fixed-it has become part of our base personality....whether we
see the glass as half empty or half full. I have done better over the
years, but I will always fight the pessimistic side of me that sees a
hostile universe first...I often shake my head, rub my eyes, and only
then can I see that things weren't as I thought at first.
Homesteading and living this lifestyle as opposed to my previous
lifestyle definitely helps calm me so that I can see/perceive the
friendly universe. In a city/urban/suburban environment, where there
are too many people, too much noise, and too much pollution, it becomes
very, very difficult to see anything but hostility.

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will
not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius
will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the
world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone
are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve
the problems of the human race"
~ Calvin Coolidge
