I remember studying about Sequoyah in grade school.    I had a good friend through high school, full blooded Cherokee, his dad was state trooper.  Completely assimilated ....bobford

Cherokee is one of the few places where a written language rose
independently by a native speaker. I cannot remember but I think it only
happened in three or four places.
