Wow!  Kiowa.  Impressed.  That's from a very small linguistic family.

Pala valley.  Would it possibly be the Pima people?  Also called, if memory 
serves, as the O'odham?   That's an Uto-Aztec language.  I've had the 
oportunity to study  a bit of Nahuatl and it certainly isn't hard to find native
