I'm also zone 9.  When you say that your tomatoes "are done" do you mean they have their blossoms set, or that you already have tomatoes?  ...bobf

Bob -

I tend the vegetable garden for a friend - we are zip code 92365 - and I
believe we're Zone 9?

Tomatoes are done - peppers are also 'knotty'. Melons, which she has never
attempted before, were not doing well, lying on the ground, and she wanted to
rig up some sort of cheesecloth support (or equivalent), but I suggested she
buy  the little 50-cent containers of thigh-high pantyhose at the local
WallyWorld,  and hang them on the chainlink fence which surrounds that garden.

They appear to be doing well, but they are small. I call them her Joe  Namath
melons.

I have  about 16 tomatoes, maybe 10 have blossoms.  four bell pepper plants,
all  have buds and a few smell knotty looking peppers.  We finally had four
consecutive days of below 104 degree temperature, that is supposed to be the
baseline for blossoms to set.  Hopefully in a few weeks I will start
harvesting .  The okra and squash are still barren.

The  past few mornings have been nice and cool.  It is just breaking dawn and
only 84 degrees.  Must go find my sweater  ........bobford
