This sums it up rather neatly.  What people want is reinforcement, and they 
want it not only over advice but also over facts, logic, and their own 
experience and observation.

Consider most personal blogs and even most email lists, they consist an 
endless train of "oh, you are so right, you are so wonderful".  If anyone dares 
say, "Eh, wait a minute, don't the numbers show that ...., isn't it logical that 
... don't we always find in these cases that ....."   such comenter is the 
Devil encarnate being judgemental, suppressive, and p*ssing on someone's 
cherished dreams.

If anyone wants to deal in anything that can be remotely constued as advice, 
they must be prepared to be loathed, dispised, and called everything but a 
Child of God because of it even by those who eventually take the advice .... 
*especially* by those who eventually realize the truth of the matter and take the 
advice.

There is some forgiveness to be had for those who give bad advice.  There is 
none for those whose advice turns out to be correct.
