Yes,
     In most cases, your employer has a management firm  running your 401k 
program and
it is entirely independent of the company. If your business goes under the  
stocks etc, are
still yours and don't change in value.

If the employer goes under, the portfolio of stocks still  exists 
independently and will then be managed or disbursed by whoever  recieves (is

recievership of) the defunct  business.
