[Homestead] Is it serious, or is it not?

Bringing up the Civil War is quite appripo. 1857 was a bit like today. For
those who are history inclined, they'll remember as being called the Panic
of 1857. The North had relied on manufacturing and, dare I say the nasty
word, B A N K I N G (sound familiar?). The South could be called the
homesteaders. They relied on agriculture and the Panic didn't have much of
an effect on them.

And what does any good ? politician do when the economy is down? Why start
a war, of course. And what is the usual end of most wars? Why more federal
powers.

Was Sumter the beginning of the war? NO! The beginning was the North
trying to control the import and export of goods and the good shipping
facilities of the South and going into an even bigger panic at the thought
of loosing that money! The Union (Feds) imposed taxes on cotton and tariffs
on exports, AND, they used military forces to be sure that these ports were
controlled.

So, no, Sumter wasn't the first shot! You just won't read about the rest of
it cause history is reframed by the winner!
