[Homestead] Is it serious, or is it not?

So you assume there will be a lot of jobs lost? I depend on outside 
money; a large part of my income is child support from my ex. If times 
get bad enough that I lose that, a lot of people will be hurting, and 
locally grown food will be in demand. I can live without utilities and a 
lot of other things, but I'm sure I can always make enough to pay my 
mortgage.

I just heard California threatening that the whole state government 
could be shut down because of lack of money by the end of the month. 
Does that mean that they have no cash and borrow money that often to 
make payrolls, etc? A LOT of people and governments need a wake up call 
to start living within their means.
