One area is along the state line between Missouri and Iowa near where the De
Moines river becomes the state line. The area had many Gum trees which bees
like. Citizens in both Iowa would harvest honey there. An Iowa Sheriff
decided that the area was in Iowa and that they people owed a tax.
Missourians felt it was in Missouri and that they had no reason to pay a tax
to anyone in Iowa. It ended up in the US Supreme Court and a boundary line
was surveyed then staked out with iron stakes. There is a triangle shaped
very small piece that was left out and claimed to be part of no state. That
was settled in the 50s when it was given to Missouri.
