I made it to the Flying J in Winslow AZ. Looking at my plans I see that I expected to make only Kingman on the first day. That was when I planned to leave around 10 AM but I left around 3-4 AM. The road from Kingman to Winslow is up and down with at least one 7000' pass and several 6000'. A long slow crawl up one side and a fast slide down the other. Down to 30 mph at times on the way up. I thought it was killing my gas mileage but I got the best of the day.

On one grade just before the crest there was a large wooden support right in the middle of the lane. I had to cut off a truck behind me but when he saw the reason he waved and not with a one finger salute. Another time they road was down to one lane for repairs. I was in the correct lane when a car shot around me, just barely missing the orange cones. Suddenly he saw a truck in front of him and hit the brakes. I am very glad my pickup choose yesterday for the brake booster to fail and not that moment

Time for a bit of supper and some sleep.
