[Homestead] Steam in bags

Usually, I don't buy stuff like this, but I had a coupon and decided to
try them...Ziplock Zip N Steam bags. These things are awesome. I don't
know if a regular bag would do the same or not-probably would, I haven't
tried it, but I thought I would mention it here for anyone who might be
inclined. If you have discarded the microwave, then disregard.
These bags are so easy...just fill them with veggies and your
seasonings-no water needed, and pop them in the microwave for about 2
minutes. Voila! You have fresh veggies straight from the garden to your
plate. Even corn on the cob only takes 3 or 4 minutes, and it is
delicious. I just add a pat of butter and some lemon pepper. For
squash, just cut it up and add some onion or Italian herbs or both. Mix
and match...broccoli, cauliflower, carrots...all in 2 minutes. The only
disadvantage is the size of the bag-I think they need to be bigger. It
is quick, easy, and doesn't heat up the kitchen. It's almost
gourmet...green beans and almond slivers,,,,,you name it, I've done it.
I know this sounds like an infomercial, but I don't care, I like them.
I generally don't even buy ziplocks except during canning/freezing
season, so if anyone knows whether or not you can use a regular plastic
bag to do the same thing, let me know. This is much better than boiling
or using the steamer-you have to clean that!
