[Homestead] Moats?

Most of our pests fly in so I'm not sure a chicken moat
would work. Our rooster has free range of the garden
though. Fortunately we have the second largest Mexican
free-tailed bat colony in the world (featured on BBC
several times) nearby and our own Cave Myotis bats to keep
our garden relatively free of damaging insects. We sit out
there as evening falls and the bats come within inches of
our faces (one even brushed my cheek last week!) eating
the mosquitoes our warm bodies are attracting. It's pretty
cool, not for the faint of heart.
