[Homestead] Reusable canning lids

It was I who asked about canning lids, and despite having first done the
best job of research I could, and then asking on several lists, I came
up empty-handed. I did get lambasted a few times for trying to find
reusable; it was pointed out to me that the "USDA says you can't" do
it.......ROFL.....so I gather a lot of folks just don't 'get' it. The
only thing I could see this time around is an Australian 'system' which
requires all new jars, lids, etc, all shipped from halfway around the world.
I was again pondering the question after having thrown out 26 pounds of
used lids this spring. These I'd kept 'just because' or 'in case' but
basement flooding rusted them.
The ones I had before worked perfectly and were about 20-25 years old
when my house burned down and I lost them. But right up until then I'd
used them every year and had never had a sealing failure with them, nor
had any of them needed to be pitched for bending, warping, etc. So it's
a real kick in the butt to have to replace the blinkin' things every year.
If anyone finds anything, I'm interested still.
Susan Jane, in Maine, where we have about 3' snow on the ground but have
27* right now so there will be settling....
