[Homestead] out of the blue

Don't I know it...I hate many specific burdock plants that I've battled. 
I've picked so many burrs out of the dogs' coats. If you miss even one 
plant, there are a million next year. It IS deep rooted, which is good for 
compost, bad for killing plants...I can chop down the same large plant 3 or 
4 times a season.

 Some thistles are even worse. I cut them when they are in bud, and come 
back a week later to find the dead plant laying on the ground flowering. I 
wish the things I plant had that kind of will to survive! My neighbors tell 
me that "Old John", who used to own my farm, used to put thistle plants in a 
big pile, pour gasoline on them, and set them on fire. I wonder if that 
killed them dead enough not to come back?
