[Homestead] Cheesemaking, milk and goats

We were thinking about getting them but they just don't give enough milk to
make it worth the time and trouble. One of the reasons we were looking at
them is they generally aren't hard on fences. In fact, very ungoatlike in
that area. We're now looking at a Nigerian/LaMancha cross. They seem to be
the best of both worlds.

I milked a couple of them (neighbor down the road has a whole herd of them)
and you need either very little hands or be clever at using only one finger
and your thumb. Again, another reason to look at the crosses.

Of course, AGDA has now decided that they won't register any of the new
crosses at all. Don't know what their problem is but it sure has put a
damper on things for some of the 4-H kids who were doing experimental dairy
herd projects.

I had LaManchas before---well, one Oberhausli wether, too-and I loved them.
However if I get goats again, I am thinking of trying Nigerian Dwarfs. Has
anyone got any first hand info on them?
