This is what astounds me, as if finding more oil is what we need. Lot's
of tycoons from various countries are thrilled over the prospect of new
oil becoming available as the ice melts over the northern seas, and even
National Geographic is exited over Methane becoming available due to
melting permafrost! How shortsighted can we be? How to do without it is
what we Must do.
Peak oil we should have learned by now is about the best thing that
could have happened, and it is the measures we take to forestall it that
will doom us. This 'Climate Change' thing is for real and the cause is
simply too much CO2 from burning fossil fuels. As catastrophic as it
would be if all oil and coal suddenly dried up overnight, still less
pain and death would be the result than if we were to keep on the tack
we still are on now.
My thoughts for the coming year are directed towards learning and DOING
as much as I know and can do, so that as many as possible, especially
the young, survive what I am certain is coming upon us all, and much
faster than we think. The question is not if all these chaotic events
will occur, or even when, but how many, if any, will survive it. That
now is surely up to us alone. Saving our own almost spent lives is not
the issue ... but to see that the young make it. Perhaps then we will
have the opportunity to get back in and do it right, or at least better
than we have till now. The fact is, without us, there may not be a next
time. Yes, I think there is a place for group community efforts,
learning and practicing new ways of getting along and reaching joint
decisions, and working side-by-side are required. I would hope that the
experience and expertise of the older ones here is not hidden away in
lonely cabins but available to those who are going to need every bit of
information, encouragement and 'how-to' advice they can get. jerry b
