James that field looks awsome. Who is at the horse's head? Is that one of the kids? I remember when your 4th one was born, how time flies! I know you didn't eat 70 pounds of potates at one sitting, so when they have over wintered in the ground do they store well for any length of time?

I am one tired puppy tonight! They are calling for more blessed rain within
48 hours, it's suppoed to be 3 more inches and we could still use it. But
it's time to plant potatoes and the hard corn will not be far behind.

So today we plowed the garden where plots of potatoes and hard corn are
rotated each year, it's about 1/5 an acre but big Duke, the biodesiel, was out of
shape from a winter of relative idleness.

  The old saw goes:

Six by nine, straight as a line, eleven miles per acre.
One acre for each horse each day is their full fill of labor.

All three of us had to take it much easier than that but in one afternoon we
got the ground ready for disking. Which see:

We also unearthed about 70 lbs of potatoes missed in the winter digging and
we had a great heap of French fries for supper.

That, and as the country song goes .... Whiskey for my men, beer for my
  horses.

"He who by the plow would thrive,
Himself must either lead or drive."
