are held in place and how a template is shaped.

Here is a letter.  I am in a hurry and did not get a decent image but you 
can get the idea.  They are plastic.

These guides mount to the base plate of the router and ride inside the 
letter template.  They are for an older Craftsman router and do not fit my 
Porter Cable.
