One year, I threw an acorn squash gone bad onto the compost pile. The
squash was bought at the local grocery store. The compost pile did not heat
and the squash sprouted. I harvested 6 bushels of acorn squash from that
I have high hopes for the seeds I saved from a good cantelope this year.
I do sheet composting now instead of piles.
>Another question: When you use beans from the supermarket for seed what's
>the germination rate?
>One of the tidbits I get from your posts is that it doesn't take many
>seasons to select for adapted seeds. This is hopeful, one of the more
>hopeful things I've heard lately.
