Try opening them yourself and pouring them over ice, serving that to your
guests in the future, so that they don't see the can and decide that the
drink must have gone bad. If the guest still throws out the soda (that was
rather rude) or looks like they are choking it down to be polite, or sets it
aside and "forgets it" you can assume that diet drinks don't have an
infinite shelf life. I'm guessing that like all canned goods they have a
limited shelf life, but I have no idea how long that might be.
