Well, numeric perfection is the reason he preferred the form aleeis as against alieis. After all, wasn't it his position that
numerology can help recover the original Greek text?

Try the Greek Grammatical analysis tool at Perseus.org. It could be the masc nom/voc pl form of aleês, "in the sun".
