I think there's a problem in /usr/bin/osql, with the line defining ODBC_DIR:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Establish ODBC prefix directory

ODBC_DIR=$(strings ${ISQL} | grep ^/ | grep -v elf | grep -v '\.so\.' | head -1
| sed 's/lib$/etc/' )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I comment out the above in a copy (~/odbc.sh), and add after them what is
correct for my server:

ODBC_DIR=/etc

then I get sensible results.
