Yes, I know about the regional settings.  I think they mostly determine
the behavior of a) certain clients (e.g. Query Analyzer) or b) the ODBC
driver.  I think most of them don't affect the server.

I think currency rendering, for example, is driven by locale.  There's
nowhere in the login packet (afaik) to set the lcid.  Is it inferred from
the language?

Two bytes (56 & 57) in the TDS 7.0 login packet have an unknown purpose. 
Perhaps they can carry locale information?  Probably not; we at least
always send zeros.  

I think we need some more testing before we (or at least I) know exactly
what's affected by the language field in the login packet.
