nm(1) is telling us it's not exporting any symbols. I suspect you're right that they're being filtered by the regex.
Try changing:
libsybdb_la_LDFLAGS = -version-info 5:0:0 \
-export-symbols-regex \
'^(db|bcp_|tdsdump_open|tdsdbopen|.*_xact|close_commit|open_commit|.?asprintf).*' $(FREETDS_SYMBOLIC)
to just:
libsybdb_la_LDFLAGS = -version-info 5:0:0
then:
$ rm -rf src/dblib/.libs
$ make
