Hi freddy77

Now i have new installed the total setup of the Debian Box.

I use now the following configuration:

- Debian 3.0R1
- Apache 1.3.29
- Php 4.3.4
- freetds v0.62.dev.20031220
- MSSQL 7.0

It works now, but I will make some tests, the next days will show if my
problem is still exists. (I hope not)

But in either case thanks a lot for your great help and also to the other
folks which helped in this thread.

Roland

Yes, you have to...

Well, using mssql_connect perhaps resolve the problem however it's just
a workaround.

I finally find the time for a complete test
- downloaded apache 1.3.29 and php 4.3.4
- untared apache
- configured and installed apache
  ./configure --prefix=$HOME/install --enable-module=so --with-port=8081
&& make && make install
- untared php
- configured and installed php
  ./configure --with-apxs=$HOME/install/bin/apxs --enable-ftp
--with-pear --with-mssql=$HOME/install --prefix=$HOME/install
  make && make install
- added .php files to apache
- limited apache processes to 2
- disabled user/group in httpd.conf (so I don't need root access)
- configured server (created a "test" database with "test" user and
"test" password)
- configured server in ~/freetds.conf ("testserver")
- configured dump in ~/freetds.conf ("dump file" as $HOME/freetds.log,
"dump file append" as "yes")
- started apache
- copied your script and changed query ("select name as Name from
sysobjects") and configurations
- launched script some 3/4 times (successfully)
- waited 1/2 hour
- launched script some 3/4 times (successfully)
- waited 1 hour
- launched script some 3/4 times (successfully)

There seem to be no problem at all...

At the same time I open a tsql connect and did query ("select
@@version") waiting 1/2 hour and 1 hour... all successfully, connection
was never broken.

"netstat -anp" always confirm the right connections (when a new httpd
instance init a new connection is opened)

If you can update FreeTDS to CVS/snapshot version and configure using
correct TDS version I'll be glad to see your results...
