Inspired by your response I did a re-configure(after un-taring the freetds
again, earlier one had few of my quick fixes, which weren't straight ;) )

Steps
========
1.LDFLAGS="-L/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/src/ctlib
-L/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/src/dblib
-L/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/src/pool
-L/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/src/tds
-L/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/src/odbc
-L/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/src/server"

2.CFLAGS="-D_ALL_SOURCE"
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/include -D_ALL_SOURCE"
./configure

configure went through fine.

Attached is the make output(swapnamake.log) and the error its throwing is
shown below.

if gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -I. -I
 -I/usr/examples/freetds-0.62.dev.20030410/include -D_ALL_SOURCE -D_F
ARY_SOURCE -DTDS50 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes  -D
 -MT config.o -MD -MP -MF ".deps/config.Tpo"  -c -o config.o `test -f
 || echo './'`config.c;  then mv ".deps/config.Tpo" ".deps/config.Po"
-f ".deps/config.Tpo"; exit 1;  fi

Hope you find something really odd.

Hmph. I guess it's good news: everything looks fine. For example, you're
detecting string.h, and even thread support.

Could we see the make output now?

Sure thing. :-) I want to add your environment to our list of known
working ones.
