To answer the side note - I unpacked the freetds-0.53.tgz file on a PC and
FTP'd the files to the Unix box because I did not know how to unpack them
on the Unix box. Yeah, I know, I lost the eXecutable attribute when I did
this; dumb thing to do.

==============================
I would like to start over; it's not a problem on this machine.
Question 1 - how do I uppack the file freetds-0.53.tgz ? I have it in
/usr/local/freetds right now; I would like to overwrite all the current
files and directories under the ./freedts tree; or I can delete them
manually.

Again, thanks to all.
