I did some investigating for the same problem. Here's what I found.
FreeTDS, Sybperl or DBI & DBD::Sybase
Free, has issues:
- Several pieces not implemented
- Fails several sybperl tests
Merant (Intersolv) ODBC Driver, DBI & DBD::ODBC
Approx $4000, works well
Easysoft ODBC-ODBC bridge, DBI & DBD::ODBC
Have not tested, seems promising. $800
OpenRDA, DBI & DBD::ODBC
Same technology as Easysoft. I believe it costs approx $900
The first one, given the forum, is the most promising, although since it
fails some of the tests - particularly ones involving error handlers - I'm
not currently using it. There's also the possibility of a free odbc driver,
although it doesn't appear that one exists yet for solaris.
Hope this helps...

Subject: [freetds] Steps/Requirements for Interfacing Perl on Solaris to
MS SQL Server 7.0
I am looking for a howto on Interfacing Perl on Solaris to MS SQL Server
What software packages are needed, where can I get them, what order are
they to be installed in, and how do I need to configure them.
I know I am asking for a lot here, but I am just starting out trying to
learn how to do this and any help would be most appreciated. Is there
anything out there even remotely close to this?
If not, would someone please take this poor soul under their wing and walk
me through the process.
thanks so much!
Perl - 5.005_03
Solaris - 2.6
MS SQL Server - 7.0
