**THIS WEEK!**
AUTHOR EVENT: Anne Cassebaum "Down Along the Haw" Mon July 11 @ 7pm
North Carolina's Haw River has a rich geographic, ecological and
cultural history, tracked here from its source to its confluence with
the Atlantic Ocean. From grinding mills to algae science, this popular
history features interviews with mill owners and workers,
archaeologists, environmentalists, farmers, water treatment managers
and many others whose lives have been connected to the waterway.
READING GROUP: "College of Sociology" Tue July 12 @ 7pm
Presented by the Durham Public School (durham.thepublicschool.org),
this is a group for discussing the works of the College of Sociology,
a loosely-knit group of French intellectuals, which lectured from 1937
to 1939. They focused on the way that human communities engaged in
collective rituals or acts of distribution. It was here, in moments of
intense communal experience, rather than the individualistic dreams
and reveries of surrealism, that the College of Sociology sought the
essence of humanity.
(If you're interested in this group, email
ibooks at internationalistbooks.org for a link to the readings, or you
can find them online--Dennis Hollier's anthology on The College of
Sociology)

DURHAM PUBLIC SCHOOL MOVIE NIGHT "In the Realm of the Senses" Thu July
14 @ 7pm
As part of the Durham Public School's film series "The Line: sexual
frontiers of popular cinema," "In the Realm of the Senses" is an
incredibly controversial film from Japan.
It is based upon a real incident. A woman named Sada Abe notoriously,
if accidentally, killed her lover during the act of love itself.
Fleeing the police, she cut off and took with her the very member that
had connected them. She still had it when she was apprehended, and she
was later convicted.

frequency of your donation. Any contribution is welcome, as we have
