Ross Grady grady at ibiblio.org
Wed Dec 22 17:40:18 EST 2010

This runs through January 3rd, and don't expect another email before
then. Mark yr calendars!

Wednesday, December 22
Great Dog Almighty (http://www.greatdognyc.com/)
Baby Copperhead (http://www.babycopperhead.org/)
Limbs (http://organosmusic.blogspot.com/)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

I'm pretty predisposed to dislike any band named "Great Dog Almighty"
but our friends Reid Johnson (Schooner, Flute Flies) and Maria Albani
(Schooner, Organos) are opening this show in a new duo format they're
calling Limbs, so there's a reason to go right there.

Wednesday, December 22
Screaming Crayons (http://www.myspace.com/screamingcrayonsnc)
Coastal Vision
Gabriel Reynolds
Kings, Raleigh

Thursday, December 23
Thunderlip (http://www.thunderlip.com/)
Colossus (http://www.myspace.com/thecolossuswillcrushyou)
Kings, Raleigh

This is a Buchanan Brothers Christmas Party, whatever that is, and that
affects you primarily in that, in the words of the Kings website,
"Formal dress is required."

Colossus are NWOBHM-loving shorthaired metalheads from Raleigh/Carrboro.
Thunderlip are from Wilmington & are more in the Valient Thorr vein.

Saturday, December 25
Olympic Ass Kicking Team (http://www.terryandersonrocks.com/)
Corvette Summer
Pour House, Raleigh

Terry Anderson had the great bad fortune to be born on Christmas Day
(half the presents, duh), so he's taking that out on his bandmates in
the Olympic Ass-Kicking Team by making them play a show.

Sunday, December 26
The Poonhounds
The Ts (http://www.myspace.com/thettttt)
Slurpeee
Pour House, Raleigh

Way back when he had long lanky hair, Pour House soundman Jac Cain was
in a band called Slurpeeee! They reunited a month or two ago for what
seemed at the time like a one-off deal, but they enjoyed it, presumably,
so here they are again, along with Jac's current band the Poonhounds, &
his better half Lutie Cain's band the Ts.

Wednesday, December 29
The Breaks (http://www.reverbnation.com/thebreaksofpittsboro)
Bull City (http://www.bullcitytheband.com/)
Motorco Music Hall, Durham

This year the Xmas Show Embargo runs through Tuesday, I guess. Things
get back rolling again with this rare appearance by a reunited Bull
City, who never really got their due before splitting up (with guitarist
Jim Brantley's move to Cupertino the last nail in the coffin).

Wednesday, December 29
The Hurt (http://www.thehurt.net)
Doombunny (http://www.reverbnation.com/doombunny)
The Latecomers (http://www.reverbnation.com/thelatecomers)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, December 29
Ghost to Falco (http://www.purevolume.com/GhosttoFalco)
Kolyma (http://www.myspace.com/kolyma)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Maybe I'm just reading the wrong papers, but it seems like Kolyma don't
play out too often nowadays, so take this chance while you can.

Wednesday, December 29
The Kodiak Farm Boys
Cat Baby (http://www.catbaby.com/)
The Pinhook, Durham

Thursday, December 30
Easy Company (http://www.myspace.com/easycompanync)
Abe Leonard & Friends
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Friday, December 31
Arrogance (http://www.arrogance.us/)
No Eyes (http://www.myspace.com/noeyesband)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

The Cradle website promises a special appearance by Dogbreath, the
oldies-cover-band alter ego of Arrogance.

Insert joke here about Frank arranging for a pre-taped ball-drop an hour
early so all the oldsters can get home before they nod off.

Friday, December 31
The Moaners (http://www.themoaners.com/)
Veelee (http://www.myspace.com/seeveelee)
Los Naturales
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

In addition to all the rawk (and/or in Veelee's case, rawk + drone +
synth-pop), DJ Craig Powell of Durham's Layabout House will be DJing all
night.

Friday, December 31
The Wusses (http://thewusses.com/)
Wembley (http://www.myspace.com/wembleystadium)
Motorco Music Hall, Durham

It wouldn't be a New Year's Eve without yacht-rockers The Wusses gracing
a stage somewhere in the Triangle, and this year it'll be the gorgeous
new stage at MotorCo, Durham's latest/greatest new rockclub. The evening
has a theme (Motorboat) & the only thing unclear to me is how the
delightful low-key Hillsborough band Wembley fits into the plan. Unless
they're going to change the theme to "Party Barge."

Friday, December 31
Motor Skills
DJ Gonzo
The Biters
Jon Yu
Kings, Raleigh

Nowadays Kings is an entertainment complex, what with Neptune's down in
the basement, and this NYE they're throwing the whole thing open, which
maybe just increases the likelihood that you'll be stranded in the
stairwell when the acorn drops.

Friday, December 31
Twilighter (http://twilighter.net/)
Salt to Bitters (http://www.myspace.com/salttobitters)
Robobilly (http://www.myspace.com/robobilly)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Saturday, January 1
Jokes & Jokes & Jokes (http://www.myspace.com/jokesjokesjokes)
Josh Moore (http://www.myspace.com/joshuamoore)
Slingshot Cash (http://www.myspace.com/slingshotcash)
Jeremy Blair from Effingham
The Magnolia Collective
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

This is a tribute to dual icons Townes Van Zandt and Hank Williams, both
of whom managed to get themselves dead, in classic icon fashion, on New
Year's Day.

Saturday, January 1
Black Skies (http://blackskies.us/)
DIVEbar, Raleigh

Monday, January 3
Estrogen Highs (http://www.myspace.com/estrogenhighs)
Last Year's Men (http://www.myspace.com/lastyearsmenband)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

This is a free late show that'll start once Nightlight Trivia is over
(~11pm or a bit later). Last Year's Men will have hopefully just
returned from a triumphant tour of weird southern towns & will thus have
many strange stories to tell.
