i'm looking for a good home for my 100-year-old white upright steiff
piano. i've got a steinway coming in, and there ain't room for both of
them in this town.
i bought the steiff from nc surplus a few years ago. they got it from a
mental hospital somewhere in western nc.
it's a great piano in funky shape. if you've heard "the rosebuds
unwind" and many other recordings done here at pox, then you've heard
this piano.
steiffs are great old pianos made in baltimore. ben folds used/owned
one.
this one, like i said, is in funky shape. one hammer broke recently.
but, it's worth having. in fact, it's deserving of a good
reconditioning, and probably worth the investment. even as it is, it's
got an excellent vibe and lots of soul. one can hear the beautiful
tinkerings of thousands of mentally ill north carolinians (including
the bands i've recorded here) in each note.
it's free for the taking if you can move it. i'm hiring professionals
to bring in the steinway, so one option is to have them move the steiff
out on the same day. that would cost something, of course.
i have a pleasant history with this piano, and it has many friends, so
i'd really like to see it end up in a nice, loving, musical home.
email me if you're interested.
