See:

"The double C in a circle, the words and logotype “Creative Commons,”  
and any combination of the foregoing, whether integrated into a  
larger whole or standing alone, are Creative Commons’ trademarks."

That means that they have a trademark to the name.

You can feel free to educate yourself about the workings of the  
international trade mark system, but the word mark "Creative Commons"  
is, for example, a registered Community Trade Mark applicable  
throughout the EU/EEA. Trade mark Registration No. 003723971
