Hello All,
I have a question about maps -- which I dearly love, and which I think are
underutilized for educational purposes, perhaps due to licensing issues.
Forgive me if this issue has been hashed previously.
I have a friend (a lawyer turned fitness/rhythm instructor --
www.totalrhythm.com) who is producing a DVD. He wants to include a map or
maps, perhaps on which he would add some markings. I did follow Mia's
advice and read through the
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/DiscussionDraftNonCommercial_Guidelines
My take is that even a map has an NC restriction, his use would not be a
"primary draw". and should be OK. I'm wondering:
1. If this specific issue has been discussed;
2. The thoughts of people on this list about the subject of maps generally;
3. Suggestions on searching for CC licensed material.
I tried http://search.creativecommons.org/# and checked the boxes, but the
results did not seem to be restricted to CC licensed stuff.
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Content_Curators does not have much on maps,
but the Wikipedia entry actually lists quite a few:

I have been using the Perry-Castañeda Library Map
Collection<http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/>.
for years and love it, and it looks like he'll be in the clear with that
one.
Thanks.
