Dear All Tripartites Members
I would like to share with you about recent activities that I am engaged
with Consumers International and to share with you on a access to knowledge
approach or a more balance approach to the copyright protection in the
digital environment in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Consumer Council is one of the Member of a global organization of
Consumers International (CI).
Consumer international is a global confederation of national consumer
groups and agencies, CI supports and represents over 220 member
organisations in 115 countries around the world.
About two-thirds of member organisations are in developing countries, the
other third in industrialized countries. One of the major campaign program
in last two years is about the access to knowledge,
the balance approach on copy-right protection. Importantly the CI is more
concern about the right of the consumers to access to knowledge and the
policy to have creative commons.
Recently the organization has issued its work on the research of global
copyright protection. It is found that copyright rules no longer do what
they are supposed to do.
A short firm *When Copyright Goes Bad* introducing the renegotiation of
copyright and is for anyone interested in how copyright is affecting
This is a film about how copyright has become one of the most important
consumer issues of the digital age. Why corporate lobbying risks
criminalising the actions of hundreds of thousands of people. And what the
future holds for the fight for fairer copyright laws.
It features other key players in the copyright debate including *Fred Von
Lohmann* - Electronic Frontier Foundation, *Michael Geist *- University of
Ottawa Law School, *Jim Killock* - Open Rights Group, and *Hank Shocklee* -
co-founder of Public Enemy.

If those who are interested to know more about our A2K project, we can share
with you all we have done so far. Thank you for your attention.
