I am just waiting for the outstanding image from Australia. I will get it to the printer if there is no more input. About this Booklet This booklet is adapted from the ?Asia and the Commons - Case Studies 2008? as an English promotional materials for CCHK. CCHK has taken minimal effort in editing but the standing-on-the-shoulders-of-giants effect allows us to produce this quality booklet. It is a demonstration of the true spirit of Creative Commons in encouraging reuse and remix of CC materials and the cooperative atmosphere among CC local chapters. We intend to use this booklet to empower every sector of Hong Kong?s knowledge industries to capitalise on the successes of others, legally. In total, 16 case studies are included in this booklet, of which none comes from Hong Kong. This is largely due to the fact that the CCHK was launched after the original booklet was produced by CC Australia. This reminds us how much effort we need to put in to catch up with other local chapters. If you would like to offer your help, please come to our official web at http://hk.creativecommons.org/ This booklet is available for download from the Creative Commons Hong Kong website, http://hk.creativecommons.org/resources/english-promotion/ The original Asia and the Commons Case Studies 2008 booklet is also available for download from the Creative Commons Australia website, http://creativecommons.org.au/asiaandthecommons Thanks, Haggen 2009/6/29 Haggen So : > Thanks Yahong. > > 99% of the content of this booklet is copied from something, except > the following paragraph in the second page. As some of you know, next year ICANN plans to allow applications from anybody who wants to run a new top-level domain (the part of the URL after the dot), in any language. This has opened up a big argument over trademarks among other things. A set of recommendations for how to handle trademark disputes has been issued by an Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT) from ICANN's Intellectual Property Constituency. It has been up for download and public comment here: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-4-29may09-en.htm One critique of the IRT report highlighting free speech concerns is here: http://www.circleid.com/posts/20090621_mahmoud_ahmadinejad_globally_protected_marks_list_gpml/ The Non-Commercial Users' Constituency within ICANN strongly objects to these recommendations. In their formal comment paper objecting to the subtance of the IRT report, they state: "the substantive IRT recommendations take ICANN far afield of its technical scope and mission, create substantive new trademark rights (beyond existing law), gut existing safeguards and fair procedures for domain name registrants in the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (?UDRP?), and create an unbounded situation for abuse by trademark lawyers and those representing trademark owners." The full objection paper is here: http://icann-ncuc.ning.com/profiles/blogs/ncucs-substantive-comments-on Other public comments are here: http://forum.icann.org/lists/irt-final-report/ Public consultations will be held in New York and London next week, then in Hong Kong the following week. The non-commercial constituency at ICANN is strongly opposed to the IRT proposal for trademark protection on both substantive and procedural grounds. Details via the following two links: http://ncdnhc.org/profiles/blogs/ncucs-substantive-comments-on http://ncdnhc.org/profiles/blogs/ncucs-procedural-comments-on Also note that I wrote a blog post recently about free speech and ICANN: http://rconversation.blogs.com/rconversation/2009/07/icann-and-free-speech.html ..and about China's re-engagement with ICANN for the first time in many years: http://rconversation.blogs.com/rconversation/2009/07/china-icann-thoughts-from-former-ceo-paul-twomey.html I'm copying Kathy Kleiman from the NCUC who led the effort against the IRT in New York and who I'm sure will be happy to provide more details. This email is about the recruitment of the Web Presence Team. The first aim for the team is to "Register Prominent CCHK Projects". I have updated the Creative Commons Hong Kong Official Web Sites at http://hk.creativecommons.org . If you "Select Language" -> "Resources" -> "Examples of Local CC Projects", then you will see the first Case Study on "A Map of Our Own:Kwun Tong Culture and Histories" of CCHK hosted on the CC International Case Studies site. The task is to develop more case studies like this. The main case studies site can be found at http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Case_Studies There are already a good number of case studies from other countries for reference. The Case Study template can be found at http://wiki.creativecommons.org/images/0/0a/Case_Studies_Questionnaire.pdf . We aim to create case studies in both Chinese and English. Please indicate if you would like to help.
