[Cc-hk] welcome to the public discussion!

Dear All,
The pdf file on the website is not accessible to assistive technology for
visually handicapped persons.
I wonder if someone can help upload a file with text. It can still be in
PDF.
Maybe Ben knows what to do. Write to me directly if there's a need for
clarification or advice.
Thanks.
Chan Yau

Thanks Catharina! This is very exciting. I look forward to seeing the
feedback from people on this list.

One question: how much general publicity about the public discussion is
customary for CC projects at this stage? Some questions have arisen here at
the JMSC about whether we should issue a press release. I had been under the
impression that this phase of public discussion is largely for people who
know something about IP law and/or who are already familiar with CC, but
please correct me if I am wrong about this.

Questions have also arisen here about whether and when we should translate
these materials into Chinese sooner than later given that some parts of our
core target community may feel excluded by an English-only discussion. I
know that in August it was decided we should do the English license first
since it's valid in Hong Kong law then do the Chinese language translation
later. I also know that Yahong and Alice do not have the time to do the
translation on their own. Any suggestions or thoughts from anybody out
there?

Cheers,
Rebecca

Dear all!

Welcome to the discussion of the Creative Commons license for Hong Kong! You
will find the draft including some comments of the substantial legal changes
here: <http://creativecommons.org/international/hk/>
http://creativecommons.org/international/hk/

I would like to take this opportunity and thank Dr. Yahong Li, Alice Lee
(Legal Project Leads) and Rebecca MacKinnon (Public Project Lead) for their
wonderful work and effort on this project.

Please feel free to review, comment, and make suggestions to things that
will help the licenses comply with Hong Kong law. The role of the discussion
is to start the public debate and to make the least amount of changes
necessary to bring the license into accord with Hong Kong law. Also, please
feel free to ask general questions about the Creative Commons licenses in
the cc-mailing list:

Part of the fun of this discussion will be, I hope, that we get to compare
the quirks and eccentricities of our respective nations' copyright laws.

We expect the archived discussions to serve as a history of this experience.
That way, your input will continue be useful to anyone from any country even
after the discussion for Hong Kong is completed.

I am very much looking forward to a fruitful and open discussion!

Thank you very much.

All the best,

Catharina
