[cc-education] Potentially blasphemous suggestion

As I recall, one of the assumptions behind deploying an "education
license" was that there's something in particular of which people
automatically think when they hear the term.

It's clear now, however, that this isn't so. Some people think that it
ought to prevent commercial use, while others do not. Some people think
that it ought to restrict use of the licensed material to formal
educational institutions, while others do not -- and worse, the
definition of such institutions will either be a compromise that fails
to please everyone or else so watered down as to be meaningless.

If it's the case that there's no obvious set of characteristics that an
educational license should have, wouldn't it be better to forgo one
altogether rather than introduce one that people might unthinkingly use
that doesn't actually meet their objectives?

Besides, shouldn't people who are developing educational materials be
capable of using the "Educators' and Scholars'" interface?

I mean, the interface isn't exactly brain surgery -- CC did a good job
of making it easy to use, why not just let educators use it rather than
shoehorn them into a one-size-doesn't-really-fit-all license?
