This thinking never quite works for me. What the NC says to me is that the
person applying the license wants to profit from the work and so I generally
don't touch it. I certainly will not be giving copies of it to anyone.
If I want people to get gratis copies of my work, I put on a BY-SA license and
offer gratis copies.
If someone else manages to sell copies of that work to someone when their
customer could have obtained it from me gratis, I will live with that. And I
am not against artists/musicians making a living based in part on using my
Free works. I want them to in fact.
How many of us go to kompoz.com, ccmixter.org, jamendo.com etc. and make CDs
of the BY and BY-SA music there and sell copies? If is such a good business
model, why are we not all raking in the dough?
That said, to each his own. There are people who are not going to promote NC
works who will promote BY and BY-SA works though so using NC is a tradeoff
that people doing so should be aware of.
all the best,
drew
