[cc-community] BY-SA Question

I have some BY-SA images that I remixed from someone else's BY-SA
images. This was done back in the CC 2.0 licence era, so the originals
are BY-SA 2.0 and the derivative/second-generation/adapted/remixed
images were also placed online under 2.0.

Can I switch to offering the derivatives under 3.0 given the upgrade
permission of the 2.0 licences, or does that permission not cover doing
so for an unmodified derivative when a new licence is released?

(I can email the copyright holder on the original images if I need
permission, I'm just curious to know whether I need to or not.)
