And this to should be a long term goal to people interested in this issue... 
To make this whole thing less complex, at least as it pertains to Free 
licensed downstream uses and possibly the NC licensed ones too.

I find it constantly challenging and am constantly having to revise my 
internal model of how this all works as I think I learn new bits and pieces.

I think a lot of times, they have never conceived that someone might want to 
do things the way some of us want to do them. There is no concept of Free and 
copyleft licensing and how they can be handled in the wild. I hope this will 
change but sometimes I wonder if it will happen or if parallel "groups" 
formed with Free (and copyleft) licensing in mind will have to arise before 
any real change occurs. I hope not, that road seems too long.
