Well, if you use, BY-NC, someone could make a derivative of your work and put
it under a license which prevents you from further work based on the
derivative. With BY-NC-SA, their derivative would have to be BY-NC-SA which
would allow you to make further BY-NC-SA derivatives based on their
derivative.
The same game works between BY and BY-SA except they allow commercial
derivatives.
