Hi Lucas,
Does ASCAP know about your wishes, Jamison?
I told ASCAP as soon as the problem started with AKM... as far as ASCAP are
concerned, ASCAP issue blanket licenses for the use of my songs. ASCAP says
that they have a non-exclusive agrement for the use of my songs and i'm able
to deal with my rights as i choose, outside that agreement The venue was not
paying a blanket license..
When they contact a venue you have played post-facto, is it
> specifically about your performance and not all performances in
> general?
It has been specifically about songs i create.. they also issue the venue
with a fine ontop of the fee they have to pay to AKM. This ensures that i
want play at the venue again.
If an agreement I sign with ASCAP is non-exclusive and AKM recognize that my
contract is non-exclusive, i can't see the problem with licensing my songs
to spaces to that don't pay a blanket license to AKM. What business is it of
AKM or ASCAP, how i license songs to these spaces? AKM/gema make the rules
up as they go, to protect their monopoly status. Even if its just a couple
of Euros in a space that does not normally have live music.
