[cc-community] Creative Commons Salons

We're just in the process of organising our 2nd Salon here in Australia (scheduled for 24 June - http://creativecommons.org.au/australasiancommonssalon/).

But we take a slightly different approach to most. Because we're based in a relatively small city (Brisbane, pop. 5 million) we can't really sustain regular Salons. So we tend to hold a Salon every year or so, whenever we're holding a conference/symposium etc.

The plus by having it not so regularly is that you can make it a bigger event, with more attendees and highlighting more CC works. The downside is, of course, that it becomes a much bigger deal to organise.

So, for instance, this time we're holding the Salon as the evening event following our one day conference, Building an Australasian Commons (http://creativecommons.org.au/australasiancommons). We're going to be displaying photographs curated and released under CC by the Powerhouse Museum (http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/imageservices/), and showcasing a couple of CC animations made by local artists for the event (eg http://www.chrisdenaro.com/). We'll be having performances by two Australian music groups who license under CC - Yunyu (http://yunyu.com.au/home/) and Terminal Quartet (http://www.toysatellite.org/agarton/2007/01/terminal_quartet.html).

In addition, we'll be playing some of the other CC-licensed videos out there, and CC music in the background etc.

Attendee.

I think most are intermittent. There was one in San Francisco last
week, but it was the first in several months.

That's awesome. I don't have any significant answer. It is a lot of
work to organize regular events. I know a number of people on this
list have organized CC Salons or similar events, maybe some will weigh
in.
