[cc-community] ASCAP

I haven't even applied for a Creative Commons license yet.

I iam a composer who invites everyone to look at my website and download any
music they want as long as they let me know and attribute my work. I plan
to apply for a CC license.

What happened was that a restaurant manager in Belgium got into all kinds of
trouble because he downloaded my music (with my permission) and played it as
background music at his restaurant. An ASCAP person came in and demanded
that he pay a fee for using my music.

Well, the restaurant manager was upset with this. He was the person who told
me all about
Creative Commons. I decided that I no longer wanted anything to do with
ASCAP and then ran into this issue of them not letting me out of my
membership until next year and having to wait until July even to submit my
request.

I had just figured that I wanted to get out of ASCAP, be free and clear of
it, and then sign up for my Creative Commons license.

What do you think? Thanks so much for your input.
