From my reading him, he gets it.

I think he is planning on the non-sharealike derivatives.

He says he already gives exceptions re sharealike for "not too commercial"
works gratis and is willing to sell the same for more commercial uses.

I too am interested in the possibilities of cc+ on cc BY-SA works.
