I do remember the buttons as well.
Here is my curent, and I think modest, proposal.
CC adopts a Free CC mark and perhaps logo.
CC creates a page on the site for Free CC and indicates on that page that BY
and BY-Sa are currently the only Free CC licenses.
CC indicates that Free = Libre that a Free work can be Gratis or non-Gratis.
Done.
It would be nice if CC would adopt an official position that it thinks the
Free CC licenses are the best for the Creative Commons and suggest that those
who want to promote the Creative Commons choose one of those licenses in the
absence of studied and informed reasons for not doing so. This would be nice,
but it is not a part of the proposal.
If CC adopts the above proposal, it couls at this point leave it up to those
concerned with Free to work out our own promotions around this and could keep
on doing what it does as it has been without further reference to the Free CC
stuff. (For the time being?)
Anyone see problems with the proposal? Reasons CC should not do such a thing?
Improvements to it that do not get too complex?
