[cc-community] free culture site

Hey!

I feel like all the free culture, creative commons, free software,
open source, open access, anti-DRM, etc. movements have a lot in
common (although they have their differences too). That's why I wrote
a simple but comprehensive text for newcomers to make them understand
easily what all this is mostly about and where it is (I think)
essentially heading: a choice or even a battle between 'the
proprietary' and 'the free' in various fields.

Because I thought many more people might be able to contribute more
detailed information on the many initiatives that are applying
free/open source ideas in various fields, or might want to write about
other things concerning the movement, I created a wiki and published
the text there.
http://www.sphereofnetworks.org/

There exist already so many organizations and communities all fighting
more or less for the same goals, in the same direction, although in
different fields or domains and maybe for different reasons. This is
good and because not everybody agrees on every detail, there need to
be lots of smaller communities. But I'd like to see a place which is a
portal to all those communities and a website where people from all
over the various movements meet, network and sum up their initiatives
and their struggle (some in the field of software, others fighting DRM
or making a free movie like Elephant's Dream).

Of course I can't just put up a website and expect everyone to come
over at once. So, it might be easier to add the idea to an existing
site and start off with the community there. On the other hand, if the
place is already associated with a given community, it can't really
act as a 'meta-site', as a neutral platform. But if anyone sees fit
for this in their community or knows about a good place to put it,
please tell me!

Unfortunately, I haven't too much time at the moment and community
building is really hard work. Nonetheless, I would like to see my text
contributing to something useful, and I do think it might help
introduce newcomers into the issues quite reqdily. So, I'm also
thinking about simply transferring the whole thing to Wikibooks. I
guess the text is quite useful (well, judge for yourself), but as I'm
not a native English speaker someone would have to go over it and make
some corrections. (the wiki is open!)

I would love to hear what you think about the idea and its potential
for realization. Entirely utopian or even unnecessary? Is anyone
interested in helping me out or taking it over? Thanks a lot for your
advice.

Best regards,
Mauro
