[cc-community] Licensing and the submission process?

Hello all,

I work for WFMU, a freeform non-commercial radio station, and I'm
currently managing a campaign to license a good deal of recorded music
under Creative Commons licenses (see:
http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/10/the-first-fruit.html).

We're currently developing a simple web application that will
facilitate web-based submissions. But I need advice about how to
handle the thousands of recordings that we already have archived from
live sessions over the years.

When I have a physical copy of a recording that does not exist on the
web, what is the best way to assist the artist in licensing that
recording under CC? Could an email from them stating the tracks names
and context under which they were recorded, along with "This work is
licensed under the Creative Commons [insert description] License. To
view a copy of this license, visit [insert url];" suffice?

We're studying the CC Contribute application for inspiration. Any
additional thoughts on strategies a third party may use to help
facilitate licensing would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marcus Estes
