Stallman did comment recently that Lessig had just about convinced him
that people need a "right to remix". I believe, after Lessig, that
remixing an example of freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech is an important right and the media used to effect
free speech can be protected by measures similar to those that protect
freedom of use for software. This is because code is expressed in media
similar to those used to express speech, not because culture is
functional or code is expression.
